Thanks to my Team!
I chose a picture of my baseball team for my thank-you page because it’s been my experience that when one person shines during a game it’s because there’s a team of people supporting them.
Richard Koett, my husband and friend of 38 years: Thank you for your love, your unflagging belief in me, and all of your patience, listening, and computer support. I truly could not have done this without you. They say behind every great man is a woman, but behind this woman is a great man.
Laura and Dylan Koett, my children: Thank you for teaching me so much about my capacity for love, patience, and wonder. I am so very proud of both of you, and so lucky to be part of your life.
Shirley and Les Simonson, my parents: Thank you for your strength, your example, and your love. You truly were my first teachers, and as well as teaching me to love reading and baseball, you taught me to stand up for what I believe in.
Allison Donnelly, my teaching partner: Thank you for taking this journey with me, for the laughs and the tears, and for all of the conversations that have truly stretched my learning.
Ute Goetzke, my Principal and mentor: Thank you for your grace, your caring words, and your moral compass.
Chris Sihota and Helga Goetzke, my carpool buddies: Thanks for conversations that have broadened my understanding, and for sometimes just making me laugh.
Team Awesome, my classmates: It has been a pleasure and an honour to get to know you and to share this learning experience with you.
Julia Henrey, Chris Epting, Cathy Nelson, Rose Cooper, Tawnya Harssema, Tazmin Manji, Laurie Sukert, Sandy Dawiskiba, and Alice Tibben, teachers I have worked with: Thank you for providing me with so many examples of the ways teachers positively impact their student’s lives.
Dr. Elizabeth Jordan, and Dr. Janet Jamieson, my educational advisors: Thank you for lighting the fire by allowing us to construct our own learning in our very first class in the Master's program. Your exemplary teaching showed me how motivational it can be to follow ones passion for learning.
Diana Wilk, my district Vice-Principal of Learning Support Services: Thank you so much for sharing the mountains of understanding and wisdom you have with such an accepting spirit.
Dr. Marion Porath, Dr. Maureen MacKinnon-McQuarrie, Dr. Kristi Lauridsen, Dr. Whitebread, Dr. Joe Lucyshyn, and my other teachers throughout the Master's program: Thank you for providing our class with such great examples of teaching, such thought provoking readings, and for your coaching and engagement with our learning.
Lastly, I would like to thank my grandmother Mary Cairns for her strength of character, and for teaching me the importance of taking the time to genuinely engage and listen to others non-judgmentally.
